Fitzdoodles Puppy Culture
There are a lot of breeder programs out there these days and we think each of them have some really great points. Instead of using one program, we have come up with our own that incorporates a lot of things from known programs like puppy culture or badass breeder.
We start our puppies off with early neurological stimulation (ENS). ENS helps stimulate puppies early on and has benefits such as more tolerance to stress, stronger heartbeats, and greater resistance to disease among other things. ENS consists of five exercises:
- Using a q-tip to tickle between the toes of one foot of the puppy.
- Holding the puppy in an upward position for five seconds.
- Holding the puppy with the head held down for five seconds.
- Holding the puppy on its back with its head facing the ceiling.
- Placing the puppies feet on a cool towel for five seconds.
On top of performing ENS for our puppies, we also introduce them to different textures, sounds, and experiences. We introduce the puppies to hardwood floors, carpet, and tile. We give them different toys so they can experience new feelings with their paws and mouths. We purposely expose the puppies to noises such as the vacuum, loud music, running water, and other day to day sounds. Each of our puppies gets a chance to ride in the car in both a kennel and on our lap so that they are used to a car from the very beginning. We live on a farm and so puppies see chickens, other dogs, cats, and horses once they begin going outside.
We try to give our puppies every opportunity to safely explore and feel comfortable in all settings. Our puppies are well adjusted and happy when they go to their new homes!
