We get puppies into a routine of going out to go potty first thing in the morning, every few hours through the day, and then a final time before bed!  When we send puppies home, we always let new puppy owners know that the potty training period is an adjustment for everyone!  Some tips that we think help are-

1.  Get puppies in a routine.  Take them out to go potty at the same times of day each day.  

2.  Give them lots of pets and tell them “good job” when they go potty outside.  

3.  We talk about this on the crate training page, but making sure that the crate they are in is just big enough for them to be comfortable in and not big enough for them to use one portion for going potty and one portion for sleeping.

Just know that they will pick it up and each puppy is different!  Some puppies pick it up right away while others take a minute to figure it out!
